Lately, Alise and I have been reminiscing about our old hometown, Des Plaines, Il. because of a Facebook group that was started talking about the “good old days”. One of our favorite spots was the Sugarbowl, a wonderful soda fountain and candy shop. I remember my Mom taking me there and falling in love with vanilla Coke. And, not the bottled kind you get now… a real soda jerk made vanilla coke. But, many of my friends had another favorite… The Green River. It is a lemon lime phosphate soda. I have put the recipe below, but we would love to hear your old drink favorites too.

Green River Soda

2 oz of syrup, Lemon Lime (you can change flavor for other sodas)
10 oz carbonated water
2 to 3 shakes of acid phosphate (1/2 to 1 teaspoon)

Put all the ingredients in a glass, stir, add ice, and you have a 12 oz old fashioned soda fountain “phosphate”. (adjust syrup and acid phosphate to suit your taste)
